Red Alder

I’m enjoying finding stands of alder to photograph.  These are around the Schel-Cheb Estuary on Bainbridge Island.  I also took some great shots while done in Oregon I’ll post next.  The alder, part of the birch family, is just perfect in winter with it’s white bark speckled with black.  The symmetry of the bare branches creates a patterned rhythm.  The red buds are beginning to come out as early spring arrives here.  Altogether they make a great subject for monochrome images.
