The City

For someone who grew up in a small Southern city, I had a very visceral experience when I first spent time in a big city.  It was here in Seattle in ’89.  Of course, much has changed dramatically since then.  I’ve also changed, having lived now in Vancouver BC as well as having lived close to NY city.  Despite the familiarity, there is still, for me, some things I feel when downtown. I usually adjust and later get into the vibe but there is always a big transition time for me to go into the downtown. This image encapsulates some of that.  The sense of being overwhelmed by the unnatural geometry.  The neck straining heights of the towers somehow pressing in on me.  The sense of being really small and insignificant.
